Add Stephen Colbert to the rotating roster of celebrities appearing as guest hosts on Good Morning America.
The Comedy Central personality is the latest star to be revealed to fill in for Robin Roberts during her medical leave from ABC’s morning television show, according to the Associated Press.

Actor Rob Lowe was also said to be among those hosting the show in Robert’s absence, the AP report stated. It was previously announced that the cast of Modern Family, Oprah Winfrey, Chris Rock, Kelly Ripa and other ABC News personalities like Diane Sawyer and Katie Couric would be taking turns filling in for Roberts during her absence.
A lifetime ago, Colbert briefly was hired as a correspondent for Good Morning America in 1996, but just one segment “ever made it to air,” the host recalled to Mediabistro. Presumably, when Colbert rejoins the GMA team as a guest host, he’ll do so without his famous Colbert Report faux-conservative talk show persona.

The guest celebrities are filling in for Roberts as she undergoes a bone marrow transplant. In June, Roberts–who battled cancer five years ago–said that she was diagnosed with myelodisplastic syndrome and needed to take a leave of absence.
She left one day ahead of schedule, on August 30, in order to go back home to Mississippi to be with her mother, Lucimarian Tolliver Roberts, 88, who died that evening.
