Donald Trump finally held his first full Cabinet meeting on Monday, and Stephen Colbert found the televised event to be “next-level weird.”
In his Late Show monologue, Colbert joked that the reason the administration held the first full meeting so late in Trump’s presidency was because they had to schedule meetings around the Russian ambassador. During the sit-down, Colbert said, various “fawning” Cabinet members took turns praising their “dear leader” in an odd display of gushing loyalty.
“Mr. President, all of us here want to thank you for having such a big beautiful behind, so all of us in the Cabinet can just smooch it at the same time,” joked Colbert. He later added, “This is an unprecedented public stroke-fest for an emotionally frail man.”
The Late Show host also brought up deputy White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ recent tweet that was a collection of emojis.
He said Sanders has “done a solid job” filling in for press secretary Sean Spicer.
“She’s even adopted his approach to the English language, because this weekend, she tweeted this string of incomprehensible emojis, symbols and letters. Which is surprising: Why not stick to the White House’s clear message of ‘covfefe?’ “

Sanders has explained the tweet by saying that her 3-year-old son took her phone, but Colbert joked that Trump only seems 3 and is turning 71 this week.
Colbert also teased Trump for defending himself by saying that although he had never told Comey he hoped the then-FBI director would let the Flynn investigation go, there would have been nothing wrong if he had said that.
