How much has Donald Trump spent on his campaign? Steven Mnuchin, Hollywood producer and now the GOP candidate’s finance chairman, shed some light on the figures Wednesday morning.
Appearing on CNBC’s Squawk on the Street, Mnuchin said that Trump has spent $56 million of his own money on his run for the presidency.
“He contributed another $2 million this month,” Mnuchin said to CNBC’s David Faber. “That brings his total commitments up over $56 million.”
The Trump campaign raised $80 million in July, a 57 percent spike from its June total of $51 million, which Mnuchin called a “huge, huge increase.” Despite the bump, the Republicans fell $10 million shy of the June total for the Democrats, who raised $90 million.
A former banker at Goldman Sachs, Mnuchin founded Dune Entertainment, formerly a major financing partner for 20th Century Fox. Dune merged with Brett Ratner’s RatPac Entertainment in 2013. At Warner Bros, the company has produced films such as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, American Sniper and Mad Max: Fury Road.
