Susan Boyle is back.
The Scottish singer debuted her latest single, “You Have to Be There,” Wednesday night on America’s Got Talent. The single is from her forthcoming album To Watch Over Me, which arrives in stores Nov. 1.
Boyle’s appearance marked the first time she’s performed the tune on television. Belting out the dramatic tune to orchestral accompaniment, Boyle wore a long-sleeved velvet dress under a single spotlight. Confetti rained down on the singer as the song neared its end, and she later said, “I’m so pleased the audience enjoyed the song. I really loved performing that big number.
“I was also a little nervous introducing something new. America’s Got Talent, it’s where I started with my first album so it was wonderful to be back and for the support.”
“You Have to Be There” is taken from the musical Kristina fran Duvemala , and was written by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus of ABBA fame.
Boyle got her start as a contestant on Britain’s Got Talent in 2009. She’s sold 14 million albums since then.
To Watch Over Me is Boyle’s third album. It was produced by Steve Mac and “is composed of songs that will take you on a journey of self discovery,” according to Boyle’s website.
Boyle celebrated her 50th birthday earlier this year.
