NBCUniversal International Networks on Tuesday unveiled the acquisition of The Outpost, a new, original series executive produced by Dean Devlin (Stargate) and Jonathan Glassner (Stargate SG-1), for the Syfy channels outside of the U.S.
The show’s 10 one-hour episodes are set to premiere later this year on Syfy channels in the U.K., France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Latin America, Poland, the Balkans, Middle East, Africa and Australia.
The fantasy/adventure series follows Talon, played by Jessica Green (Roman Empire, Ash vs Evil Dead), the lone survivor of a race called “Blackbloods.” Years after her village is destroyed by a gang of brutal mercenaries, Talon travels to a lawless fortress on the edge of the civilized world as she tracks the killers of her family. On her journey, she discovers she has a mysterious supernatural power that she must learn to control to save herself and defend the world against a fanatical religious dictator.
The Outpost also stars Jake Stormoen (Extinct), Andrew Howard (Hatfields and McCoys, Hell on Wheels), Anand Desai-Barochia (Emmerdale), Robyn Malcolm (Top of the Lake) and Kristian Nairn (Game of Thrones).
In addition to Devlin and Glassner, the show is being executive produced by Electric Entertainment’s team of Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan-Wilson and by Arrowstorm Entertainment’s team of Jason Faller and Kynan Griffin. Jennifer Griffin of Arrowstorm Entertainment is also producing. The series was created by Griffin and Faller.
“As the channel dedicated to science fiction, Syfy is the perfect home for this unique, fantasy/adventure series,” Steve Patscheck, executive vp global programming, NBCU International Networks, said in a statement. “We look forward to debuting The Outpost to Syfy fans across the globe as part of the brand’s continued commitment to building the ultimate community for passionate sci-fi fans.”
Electric Entertainment will handle sales to non-Syfy territories at NATPE and Berlin.
The news came as production on The Outpost is set to begin in Utah.
