The first song-and-dance-filled clip from Disney Channel’s upcoming Teen Beach Movie was released Tuesday.
Teen Beach Movie, which debuts at 8 p.m. on July 19, stars Ross Lynch (Disney Channel’s Austin & Ally) and Maia Mitchell (ABC Family’s The Fosters) star as Brady and McKenzie, surfers who mysteriously wind up in a classic beach-party movie called Wet Side Story. There, it’s surfers versus bikers for control of the beach hangout — and everyone spontaneously breaks into song and dance.
The newly released clip features Lynch performing a 1960s-style song titled “Cruisin’ for a Bruisin’ ” backed by an ensemble, all of whom are decked out in black leather jackets and other period costumes. (Watch the clip below.) The Hollywood Reporter also has an exclusive image from the movie (above).
Teen Beach Movie also stars Garrett Clayton, Grace Phipps, John Deluca, Chrissie Fit, Barry Bostwick, Kevin Chamberlin and Steve Valentine.
Meanwhile, the movie’s soundtrack — featuring 12 songs influenced by surf rock, Motown R&B, rockabilly and pop — will be available from Walt Disney Records on Tuesday, July 16, on iTunes and in stores nationwide. It’s available for preorder now.
Disney also on Tuesday unveiled big marketing plans for the movie, which is targeted at kids 6-14 and their families. The company is planning to debut licensed product spanning apparel, home decor, fashion dolls, bedding, lunch kits, stationery/school supplies and more at Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, Kohls, Kmart, Disney Stores and other retailers in addition to a junior novel and e-book, themed stickers, frames and filters in the new Disney Channel Photo Finish app.
Also part of the marketing push is a 10-city “Teen Beach Movie Beach Party” event tour at Simon Malls, Teen Beach Movie activities and prizes at Radio Disney events across the U.S. and seven-foot branded beach balls at One Direction and R5 concerts across the country.
In addition, the Teen Beach Movie DVD with exclusive video will be available July 19 exclusively at Walmart and July 30 at retailers nationwide.
Honda and Best Western International have signed on as national sponsors of the movie’s July 19 premiere. The movie also will be available July 15 to verified users on the Watch Disney Channel app and WatchDisneyChannel.com.
