Netflix viewers got in some hefty viewing of The Office in one of its final weeks before the show moved to rival streamer Peacock.
The beloved comedy tops the Nielsen streaming charts for Dec. 7-13, with Netflix users in the United States watching 1.28 billion minutes’ worth of the show. That’s the second-highest total for The Office in the four months of Nielsen’s weekly rankings, behind only the 1.31 billion minutes for the previous week (when it finished third).
The Office has made the top 10 of the Nielsen streaming chart every week since Aug. 3-9. It left Netflix on Jan. 1 and is now exclusively streaming on Peacock — which is not yet included in the Nielsen rankings.
The Mandalorian finished second for the week with 1.04 billion minutes of viewing on Disney+. The Star Wars series also set a new mark by spending its seventh straight week in the top 10; its next-to-last episode of season two debuted on Dec. 11.
The previous week’s top two shows, Netflix’s Virgin River and The Crown, dropped to third and fourth place for Dec. 7-13. The only new original entry was Netflix animated series Big Mouth (622 million minutes), whose fourth season premiered Dec. 4. Drama Manhunt: Deadly Games, which first aired on Spectrum Originals and then had a lightly watched second run on CBS in the fall, got a big boost with its Netflix premiere, finishing fifth with 827 million minutes of watch time.
Streaming platforms contend Nielsen’s methodology doesn’t capture the full scope of viewing on devices other than TV sets. Nielsen also only measures U.S. audiences, not those in other countries.
