‘The Voice’ Champ Javier Colon Accepts Simon Cowell’s ‘Super Final’ Challenge

If firing most of your talent and admitting that the late Whitney Houston was being considered to fill one of the spots doesn’t keep The X Factor in the headlines, executive producer and judge Simon Cowell had another trick up his sleeve.

Last week, he suggested a “super final” pitting X Factor’s champs against those of higher rated talent competitions, American Idol and The Voice. And at least one performer has since accepted the challenge.

In a move that would make his ballsy coach, Adam Levine, proud, The Voice’s inaugural winner Javier Colon said on Monday that he’s very willing to take on the other shows’ champs.

“So @simoncowell recently proposed a face off btw Idol/Xfactor/Voice winners,” Colon tweets. “I respect the other winners a lot but if U want a battle I’m IN!”

He then threw the challenge back at Cowell adding, “Just letting U know that I’m down! #itsonyousir”

Last week, American Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe also responded to the X Factor creator’s suggestion — but more in jest than actually saying he’d be in to the idea.

“@simoncowell suggests the IDOL winner should take on the voice and x-factor winners,” he tweeted. “The problem is the Idol winner will be a star by then.”

At any rate, it seems Cowell may be preparing X Factor if the “super final” actually does build up some real world traction. The talent competition announced that its Season 2 auditions are kicking off March 1 and this time performers with management contracts are eligible to compete. That’s sure to add some very talented (as they’ve already been vetted by music professionals) performers to the second season’s mix.
