NBC’s The Voice moves into battle rounds on Monday and you know that means? The coaches get their first chance to deliver on the promises they made to the performers during the blind rounds. And part of that comes from their choice of guest mentors.
On Monday’s episode, Christina Aguilera brings in the iconic soul, R&B, and pop star Lionel Richie.
“I just thought it was important to bring on people who would know how to give advice,” Christina told reporters at TCA. “A lot of artists in the business are true artists in the sense that that’s all that they do, and they’re great at being that. But it does take a certain level of skill and approachability to be able to know how to go into a situation and coach an up and coming artist.”
“So, yeah,” she continues. “Who better than someone as classic and legendary as Lionel Richie?”
No one is arguing with that – especially Team Christina performer Jesse Campbell. The single dad has given up a lot to pursue his music career and he’s thrilled to get advice from the superstar.

Over the battle rounds, you’ll also see Christina team up with Jewel, Cee Lo Green with Ne-Yo and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Adam Levine with Alanis Morissette and Robin Thicke, and Blake Shelton with Kelly Clarkson and his wife, Miranda Lambert.
The Voice airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
