Amazon has booked an all-star roster of female comedians to say goodbye to 2020.
The streamer has lined up Tiffany Haddish, Sarah Silverman and Natasha Rothwell to be part of its year-end comedy special Yearly Departed. The show, hosted by Phoebe Robinson and executive produced by Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), is set to premiere Dec. 30.
Brosnahan will also appear in the special, as will Ziwe, Patti Harrison and Natasha Leggero. The comics will deliver eulogies for the year that was and the things they “lost” — from casual sex to beige Band-Aids — in a year of social upheaval, plague, murder hornets and banana bread.
“I’m ready to put 2020 on fire like I’m barbecuing at a Black family reunion,” said Robinson when the special was announced in October. “All kidding aside, the world is beyond stressful and confusing, so I’m honored to help take everyone’s minds off the heaviness with some much-needed comedy while wearing a fresh wig.”
Amazon Studios and Done + Dusted are producing Yearly Departed. Bess Kalb (Jimmy Kimmel Live) is head writer, and Linda Mendoza (Tiffany Haddish Presents: They Ready) will direct. Brosnahan (who has a first-look deal at Amazon), Paige Simpson, David Jammy, Katy Mullan, Samantha Ressler, Nathalie Love and Kalb are the executive producers.
