The single-camera comedy centers on three unlikely friends who find an even less likely way to travel through time, irreversibly complicating their personal lives in 2016 as the great moments of the past collide with today’s pop culture, with hilarious and disastrous results. They visit some of the greatest moments of the past as they try to resolve their personal problems, while history and pop culture comically collide. Sharpe will pen the script and exec produce the 20th Century Fox Television comedy alongside studio-based Lord and Miller and Cohen.
High-concept comedies were one of five major trends during this past development season as broadcast networks — including Fox — looked for high-concept fare in a bid to break through the Peak TV world of more than 400 original scripted series.
For their part, Lord and Miller have been in particularly high demand. The duo, who also are adapting popular podcast Serial, are prepping a workplace comedy for NBC as well as a reboot of Greatest American Hero for Fox. The untitled time travel pilot is their latest collaboration with Fox, where they’re under an overall deal with studio sibling 20th TV. The pair also have Last Man as well as Son of Zorn at Fox, which picked up the hybrid comedy to series after screening a pilot presentation. The time travel comedy becomes the network’s first official order of the traditional pilot season.
