Timothy Hutton is joining Amazon’s Jack Ryan television series.
The American Crime actor will be a recurring guest star, playing Deputy Director of Operations Singer. The eight-episode drama, based on Tom Clancy’s popular novels, stars John Krasinski in the titular role. The show follows the up-and-coming CIA analyst thrust as he uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication that launches him into the center of a dangerous gambit with a new breed of terrorism that threatens destruction on a global scale.
The Paramount Television co-production is executive produced by Krasinski, Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland (Almost Human), who wrote the pilot based on a story he and Cuse developed. Other executive producers include Platinum Dunes’ Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (Transformers) and Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross, along with Mace Neufeld (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit), Morten Tyldum and Daniel Sackheim. Lindsey Springer serves as co-executive producer.
The casting news marks a reunion of sorts for Hutton and Krasinski, as the former co-starred in The Office alum’s directorial debut, Brief Interviews With Hideous Men. Hutton’s other film credits include Roman Polanski’s The Ghost Writer, Jonathan Liebesman’s The Killing Room and Cheryl Hines’ Serious Moonlight. He can be seen in the upcoming Long Home opposite James Franco, Josh Hartnett and Ashton Kutcher.
Hutton won an Oscar for his performance in Robert Redford’s Ordinary People and was nominated for an Emmy for ABC’s American Crime, which returned for a third season on Saturday.
Hutton is repped by WME, Untitled Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman.
