It’s Donald Trump versus LeBron James, and The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah was wondering how he could join in on the fun during Monday night’s show.
President Trump took to Twitter last week to taunt the newly minted Los Angeles Laker following his interview with the NBA star and CNN’s Don Lemon. “Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do. I like Mike!” Trump wrote, presumably referring to NBA legend Michael Jordan.
“You know Trump calling someone the dumbest man on television is like R. Kelly singing about you locking girls up,” the Daily Show host was quick to quip about the president’s jab.
Noah then further dissected what influenced Trump to begin “beefing” with James in the first place. In clips from James’s sit-down interview, the basketball player described his disdain for Trump, blaming the president for using sports to “divide” the public. James also said he took offense to Trump’s outcry over sports, because playing sports was when James was “around someone white” for the first time.
“Wow. That is so powerful. Imagine going through your whole life and never realizing that there were other people out there who were so easy to dunk on,” Noah mocked.

Noah also argued that the feud marks another installment of Trump “feuding with a famous black person who dared to criticize him,” which is something he aspires to be a part of.
“Which makes me wonder: What do I have to do?” Noah yelled. “Why do you ignore me, Donald? Every night! I’m out here. We even wrote a book!” The late-night host most recently published The Daily Show Presents: The Donald J. Trump Presidential Twitter Library Book, which showcases and analyzes the “finest works” from the president’s Twitter collection.
Though Noah said he may not be a part of the feud, the most “surprising” factor in the recent beef is the fact that First Lady Melania Trump defended James for “working to do good things on behalf of our next generation” with his recently announced I Promise School, a public elementary school for at-risk children in his hometown of Akron, Ohio
“Guys. Guys. I’m starting to think that maybe Melanie is not happy in her marriage…this is insane. Now Melania is saying she wants to go visit LeBron’s school? Don’t forget. This is now the fourth time that the first lady has gone publicly against her husband,” Noah said.
He added: “She spoke out against kids in cages. She refused to stop watching CNN on Air Force One, and remember, she has been spotted hanging out with vegetables, so English may not be her first language, but she is clearly fluent in throwing shade.”
Noah also implied that he is eager to see a friendship form between the unlikely pair, because James should “return the favor.” “If there’s anyone can tell her how to get out of an unhappy relationship, it’s him.”
