Trevor Noah, Jimmy Kimmel and James Corden each devoted a few minutes on their respective late-night programs Monday night to poking fun at the White House Easter Egg Roll, an annual event this year presided over for the first time by President Donald Trump.
In response to Trump boasting in his remarks to guests that “we will be stronger and bigger and better as a nation than ever before,” the Daily Show‘s Trevor Noah said, “You can see that’s a guy who has no idea what Easter is actually about.”
“Easter is such a holy day,” said Noah, impersonating Donald Trump. “People, I’m here with Rabbit Jesus. It’s so holy, folks, you wouldn’t believe it.”
Noah was also one of many hosts to take on footage that appeared to show Melania Trump nudging her husband during the National Anthem to put his hand over his heart, or as Noah said, to “remind Donald that he’s the president.”
Noah joked that Melania said, “Just put your hand where the human heart is supposed to be.”
The Daily Show host also reflected on “the miraculous resurrection of Kellyanne Conway.” Conway was interviewed by Fox as the Looney Tunes theme song played over her.
“Not only is Looney Tunes the right theme for the Trump White House, but the world is probably is probably going to end with Sean Spicer coming out and saying, ‘That’s all folks!'” said Noah.
Over on ABC, meanwhile, Jimmy Kimmel joked that Trump joined the Easter Egg Roll to play “the game of pin the tiny hand on the Easter bunny’s vagina.”
Kimmel pointed out that this year the Easter celebratory events attracted about half the number of people that Obama’s Easter celebrations drew. “Or, as the White House spokesperson put it, about twice what the Obama events drew.”
He joked that Vice President Mike Pence wasn’t in attendance because he couldn’t be in the presence of a bunny if his wife wasn’t with him, so he went to South Korea instead.
Kimmel, like Noah, mocked Trump’s remarks, saying, “He really knows how to talk to children, doesn’t he?” He also made fun of Melania’s speech, making it seem as if she copied a past Easter address from Michelle Obama and asking if he was allowed to mock Melania’s accent or not.
On CBS’ Late Late Show, James Corden spoke about the very special visitor that attended the Easter Egg Roll, “someone who only shows up to the White House once a year, Melania Trump.”
He laughed at Melania nudging Trump to put his hand over his heart. “Keep in mind she’s the immigrant from Slovenia. He was born here. He should know what to do during the National Anthem.”
“It’s never a good sign when even a magical rabbit can’t believe a Trump presidency is real,” said Corden, teasing the look on the Easter Bunny’s face.
