The cast of HBO’s True Blood just released several video PSAs for the It Gets Better Project, which was created in response to several gay teen suicides in recent years.

The show’s fans know that the show’s vampires don’t discriminate when it comes to gender. Their sexual identities have been described as omni-sexual. This season, the series made a very brave move by giving one of its human characters, Tara (Rutina Wesley), a lesbian relationship. That caused a stir among fans who wondered how permanent her sexuality shift will be. On Sunday’s episode, Tara declared she loved her girlfriend when she was faced with the possibility of losing her.
Showrunner Alan Ball has been very open about his own sexuality and he’s very vocal about his support for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) causes. Also, Anna Paquin (who plays Sookie) is very public about her own bisexuality.

It Gets Better aims to show LGBT youth “the levels of happiness, potential, and positivity their lives will reach – if they can just get through their teen years.” For more information on the project, visit their website. Also, LGBT youth can find support at TheTrevorProject.org and GLSEN.org.
