‘True Blood’s’ Kristin Bauer van Straten on Pam and Eric’s Relationship (Video)

The first two episodes of True Blood’s sixth season have shown that it isn’t going to be easy being a vampire anymore. 

Kristin Bauer van Straten, who plays the always-fashionable, sharp-tongued vampire Pam Swynford De Beaufort on HBO’s vampire drama, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the threats that are facing her people this season, and what that may mean about her relationship with her maker, Eric (Alexander Skarsgard).

Tensions between the human and vampire race have escalated to new levels after The Vampire Authority went on a bit of a killing spree and bombed the Tru Blood factory. In response, humans developed some fancy new weapons that use UV rays to deal with vampires.

“The military told the Authority last year that they were developing some things, but they never needed them,” says van Straten.

But now that they do need them, the humans are going all-out with their battle against the supernatural race.

“These are things that Eric has never seen in 3,000 years. And that adds a new layer of insecurity to our world,” she says.

Also making Pam insecure this year is her problematic relationship with her maker. In the first two episodes, we’ve seen that Eric has shoved Pam aside to focus on bigger issues, which is not sitting well with Pam.

“I like to think that Eric and Pam will always have closeness and a super deep bond,” say van Staten.

Not only are Eric and Pam dealing with the threat from humans, but one of their own, Bill (Stephen Moyer), has turned into some sort of supervampire after drinking the blood of the very first vampire.

“They’re going to go through a lot, but I like to think that that bond is unbreakable,” says van Straten of Pam’s relationship with her maker.

“Even after he released her last year, I felt like that doesn’t change her feelings,” she adds. “I think it just means that he has to call her on the cell phone.”

True Blood‘s sixth season airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO.
