TruTV has renewed several veteran series and picked up a pair of new shows as it set its roster for 2019-20.
The WarnerMedia-owned cable network has renewed At Home With Amy Sedaris for a third season, The Carbonaro Effect for a fifth, Laff Mobb’s Laff Tracks for a second and has also extended the current season of Adam Ruins Everything.
The new shows are This Functional Family, TruTV’s first animated series from comedian Jo Koy, and Game Changers, a sketch show from comedians Clayton English and Noah Gardenswartz.
The announcement comes ahead of WarnerMedia’s inaugural upfront presentation to advertisers on May 15.
“With our longstanding franchises to more recent successes like Tacoma FD, we’ve curated an original portfolio at TruTV that consistently delivers on telling distinct comedic stories from amazing talent that is resonating with fans and advertisers alike,” said TruTV president Chris Linn. “As we look ahead to the 2019-20 broadcast season and WarnerMedia’s expansion into new platforms, we’re excited about our unmatched potential for our wholly owned content that we’re developing for young adult audiences.”
This Functional Family will debut its 10-episode first season in 2020. The animated show centers on Koy’s character — a guy who wants to be a good son, better dad, decent brother and solid ex-husband — and his multigenerational, multiracial family. The cast includes Tia Carrere, Gillian Jacobs, Phil LaMarr, Josh Luis Keaton and Omid Abtahi. Koy and Kirk Rudell, who will also serve as showrunner, co-created the show and executive produce with Jeremy Colfer, Mark Feldstein, Joe Meloche and Brad Roth. Stun is producing. Koy is repped by CAA, Arsonhouse Entertainment and Hirsch Wallerstein.
Game Changers, also due in 2020, combines English’s and Gardenswartz’s two favorite pastimes, comedy and sports, for a half-hour studio show that with sketches, athlete drop-ins and comedic field pieces. The 12-episode first season is produced by Above Average. English, Gardenswartz, Grant Jones, Marc Lieberman, Jason Ross and Elliott Kalan executive produce.
The new seasons of At Home With Amy Sedaris, The Carbonaro Effect and Laff Tracks, along with additional Adam Ruins Everything installments, are all set to premiere later in 2019. TruTV’s originals also include flagship series Impractical Jokers and scripted shows I’m Sorry and Tacoma FD.
