Apple TV+ is continuing its run of early renewals for its series. The latest beneficiary is British comedy Trying.
The streaming service has picked up a third season of the show, which stars Esther Smith and Rafe Spall as a working-class couple going through the adoption process. The renewal comes almost two months before the show’s second season is scheduled to premiere on May 14.
The show’s second season will continue to follow Nikki (Smith) and Jason (Spall) as they slowly make their way through the adoption process with the help of social worker Penny (Imelda Staunton). Having gotten over the hurdle of being accepted by an adoption board, the couple find that matching with a child isn’t as simple as they’d hoped.
Returning cast members for season two are Ophelia Lovibond, Oliver Chris, Sian Brooke, Darren Boyd and Robyn Cara.
Trying received generally positive reviews, though The Hollywood Reporter‘s critic Robyn Bahr had a more mixed take, noting that the series “is sensitive and raw when it’s not striving so hard to be sexy-cute.”
Trying joins fellow Apple series Servant, Central Park, For All Mankind, Dickinson and Ted Lasso in securing a third-season renewal before the debut of season two.
BBC Studios produces Trying. Creator and writer Andy Wolton executive produces alongside director Jim O’Hanlon and Josh Cole. Sam Pinnell is producer, and Tim Mannion co-produces.
