With the launch of Hot in Cleveland spinoff The Soul Man looming, TV Land is implementing a targeted preview of the pilot in hopes of garnering interest and awareness.
The half-hour comedy Soul Man centers on R&B singer Boyce “The Voice” Ballentine (Cedric the Entertainer) who becomes a minister and relocates his entire family, including wife Lolli (Niecy Nash), to St. Louis. When he arrives to town, Boyce begins to preach at his father’s old church.
TV Land is previewing the entire pilot on Huffington Post’s Black Voices in a targeted offering for two days beginning Monday before it becomes available on other online platforms — including HelloBeautiful, a lifestyle hub for African-American women — on June 13, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Unlike previous early previews employed by other networks that have allowed episodes of an upcoming series to be available on broad-ranging sites, this is a concerted effort by TV Land to inform its key audience.
Jazz Raycole (My Wife and Kids), Wesley Jonathan (What I Like About You) and John Beasley (Everwood) also star in Soul Man, which premieres at 10 p.m. Wednesday, June 20 on TV Land.
