The cable network has renewed the half-hour sitcom for a sixth season consisting of 24 episodes. The announcement was made during rehearsals for the 100th episode taping Friday.
Hot in Cleveland stars Betty White, Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick and is currently in the middle of its fifth season. The comedy has averaged 2.6 million viewers since its June 2010 launch and will kick off its syndication run in September.
“There’s instant magic when our cast, writers and crew get together for each episode,” said Larry W. Jones, president of TV Land. “We’re so excited to be reaching these milestones and can’t wait to see what lies ahead in Cleveland.”
The comedy centers on three best friends from Los Angeles who find their lives changed forever when their plane, headed for Paris, makes an emergency landing in Cleveland. When they discover that life is better in Cleveland, they decide to stay, renting a house that happens to come with an opinionated caretaker.
Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner of Hazy Mills Productions are executive producers, along with showrunner/writer Suzanne Martin, Lynda Obst, Jones and Keith Cox.
TV Land’s slate of originals include The Exes, Kirstie, The Soul Man and its first single-camera comedy, Jennifer Falls, which will premiere in the summer. The network is also reviving Candid Camera.
