Easter Sunday typically see TV ratings dip, but programmers always hope religious fare might prove to be the exception. Two years after smashing cable records with The Bible, Mark Burnett and Roma Downey‘s big follow-up A.D. hit NBC — and while it was solid, it did not perform as well as its predecessor.
The two-hour opener averaged a 2.3 rating in adults 18-49 and 9.5 million viewers on the Peacock. That’s off from History’s 13.1 million-strong premiere for The Bible back in 2013. (The Bible held strong throughout its five-week run, eventually wrapping with 11.7 million viewers.)
A.D.’s OK entry did not give much of an assist to American Odyssey. The freshman drama, which also premiered on NBC last night, pulled a mere 1.2 rating in the key demo and 5.4 million viewers.
One telecast that did better than Odyssey was ABC’s own attempt at luring the Easter audience with a replay of The Ten Commandments. It averaged a 1.4 rating with adults 18-49 and 6.8 million viewers.
