Sunday’s original broadcast fare was likely feeling fatigued for a few reasons last night. On top of solid Sunday Night Football on NBC, there was also the MLB Division Series and the return of TV’s highest-rated series, The Walking Dead. (More on the latter on Monday afternoon.)
Sunday Night Football, with an overnight 13.1 rating among households and a tentative 7.7 rating with adults 18-49 in local people meters, was the top game on broadcast — though it was down from the week prior and CBS had strong NFL overrun of its own leading into its lineup.
60 Minutes reaped the most benefits of the lead-in, averaging a 3.0 rating among adults 18-49. Scripted offerings were steady with Madam Secretary (1.5 adults), The Good Wife (1.2 adults) and CSI: Cyber (0.9 adults).
ABC saw a steady return for America’s Funniest Home Videos (1.1 adults) at 7 p.m. After that, Once Upon a Time (0.6 adults) dropped two-tenths of a point, while Blood and Oil slipped into the danger zone, dropping half of a point to just a 0.8 rating among adults 18-49. (ABC projections only have the series rising to a 1.4 rating in the key demo after live-plus-seven day time-shifting, which does not bode particularly well.) Quantico, on the other hand, is proving to be a strong draw in the DVR crowd. The second episode managed to outpace the first in live-plus-three day ratings. The third episode saw its first same-day slip, dropping three-tenths of a point to a 1.6 rating in the key demo.
The Fox comedy block all saw fatigue from last week’s NFL-lifted lineup — with The Simpsons leading all five original series with a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49. Bob’s Burgers (1.0 adults), Brooklyn Nine-Nine (1.3 adults), Family Guy (1.4 adults) and The Last Man on Earth (1.1 adults) were also new.
