American Idol posted a significant drop on Wednesday night, along with many other series, falling 16 percent to a 5.1 in adults 18-49. The two-hour broadcast easily won the night for Fox, and will likely rise in the finals, but it currently stands nearly a point below NBC’s Monday broadcast of The Voice in the demo. The net averaged 15.9 million viewers.
CBS landed in second for the night, pulling in a 2.9 in the demo and 11.6 million viewers. It got a softer start with Survivor, though. The series dropped 10 percent from last week’s season premiere. It brought in a 2.8 among adults 18-49, shy of Criminal Minds‘ steady 3.1 and tying CSI‘s 8 percent bump over last week.

ABC was a mix bag, swapping Revenge for a 20/20‘s Before They Were Famous: Oscars ’12 Edition. The special averaged a 1.4 among adults 18-49. Happy Endings was the only regularly scheduled program to grow, up a tenth of a point to a 2.5 in 18-49-ers, while The Middle and Suburgatory both dropped 4 percent from the previous week to a 2.3. Modern Family was flat with a 4.7 in the demo, by no means a stellar showing for the comedy, but still the night’s second-highest performer across the board. The net averaged a 2.4 in adults and 6.8 million.
Whitney started off a night of shrinking scores for NBC. The comedy was down 12 percent to a 1.5 among adults 18-49. Are You There, Chelsea? (1.3), Rock Center With Brian Williams (0.6) and Law & Order: SVU (1.6) all followed with series lows. NBC ranked fourth with a 1.2 demo showing for the night and 4.1 million viewers.
One Tree Hill gave the CW its reliable 0.7 in 18-49-ers, while Remodeled was down again, hitting a 0.3 in the demo.
