The return of Big Brother drove CBS to an easy demo win Thursday night, helped significantly by strong encore performances of The Big Bang Theory.
Big Brother was down just two-tenths of a point in the demo from last summer’s premiere, pulling in a 2.6 rating with adults 18-49. It matches the second-highest premiere showing among the 18-49 demo since February 2008. Back-to-back repeats of Big Bang Theory (2.3 and 2.8 adults ratings, respectively) and a 10 p.m. encore of Person of Interest (1.2 adults rating) gave the network a 2.1 rating with 18-49-ers for the night and 7.1 million viewers.
Duets remained flat at a 1.0 rating with adults 18-49, while Wipeout lost a few viewers against Big Brother. The series was down 6 percent for a 1.7 adults rating. Rookie Blue was steady with a 1.3 in the demo, and the network averaged a 1.3 with adults 18-49 and 5 million viewers.
On Fox, Take Me Out was steady with last week’s 1.2 rating among adults 18-49, but The Choice took a hit against the Big Brother competition. It dropped 25 percent from its most recent broadcast to a 1.2 adults rating, giving Fox the same score for the night and an average of 3 million viewers.
Rock Center With Brian Williams saw a significant boost at 10 p.m., helped no doubt by a segment on Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and the Church of Scientology. The series was up 33 percent from last week, posting its highest adults ratings since a Jan. 23 telecast of a GOP presidential candidates’ debate — a 1.2 in the demo. Saving Hope was up a tenth at 9 p.m., posting a 0.5 adults rating. NBC averaged a 0.8 rating with 18-49-ers and 3.4 million viewers for the night.
Two encores of The Vampire Diaries averaged a 0.3 adults rating and 788,000 on The CW.
