CBS scored an easy Sunday win on the back of Big Brother, but newcomer game show Candy Crush didn’t let the network down either.
At 10 o’clock, the first episode of Candy Crush averaged a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49 and 4.1 million viewers. Some of that carryover from lead-in Big Brother, roughly 60 percent in the key demo, can likely be attributed to the show shrewdly using Big Brother castmembers in the first episode. The performance is marginally better than than some of the stronger alternative launches of late, as the summer’s aggressive roll-out of new reality has yet to duplicate the success of NBC’s World of Dance.
Big Brother, jumping from the previous Sunday, topped the night with a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49. It also averaged 6.5 million viewers.
ABC ranked No. 2 with Celebrity Family Feud (1.3 adults), Steve Harvey’s Funderdome (0.9 adults) and $100,000 Pyramid (0.9 adults). Fox had a new original in American Grit (0.4 adults), while NBC’s lone new entry in the latest episode of Sunday Night With Megyn Kelly.
The fifth episode averaged an even 0.4 rating among adults 18-49, an improved 0.7 rating among adults 25-54 and a steady-ish 3.2 million viewers. It lost the audience crown to 60 Minutes rerun — but, then again, so did everything else. The CBS news ‘zine brought the night’s largest crowd with 7.2 million viewers.
