Promising news for CBS’ new spin of Star Trek. The streaming drama, which got a linear sampling on Sunday evening, has already been seen by nearly 10 million viewers.
CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery reached 9.6 million viewers in its premiere telecast. That’s ahead of substantial anticipated multiplatform lifts, which CBS research touted as a potential gross 15 million viewers on Monday morning.
Star Trek: Discovery switches over to All Access exclusively starting next Sunday evening. The drama is now the 3-year-old streamer’s de facto flagship, joining The Good Wife spinoff The Good Fight and a robust library of CBS titles. (The only real comparison to Sunday’s launch, The Good Fight‘s February sampling, earned 7.2 million viewers.)
CBS cites Sunday as its biggest single-day subscription pull in history, eclipsing the previous record set by the 2017 Grammys.
Demographics are kind of pointless, considering the model for the new Star Trek is all about driving subscriptions, but it’s worth noting that the premiere did generate a 1.9 live rating among adults 18-49. That made it the top entertainment telecast of the night.
