CBS’ Thursday Night Football run has come to an end — at least for this season. And regardless of how it performed compared to ratings-gazer’s expectations, it gave the network assured victories every Thursday since early September. The network likely won’t be missing it too terribly when The Big Bang Theory moves into its old roost next week.
The final shared football telecast between CBS and the NFL Network this season brought the second-highest overnight ratings yet. The Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers game averaged a 13.2 rating and 23 percent share in the 56 metered markets across both networks. That’s just a touch behind the all-time high overnight household rating (13.7) set with the Sept. 11 opener.
More information will be available later Friday, including a rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and total viewership, but CBS easily won the night across the Big Four.
It should come as little surprise that the No. 2 network of the night was ABC. Thursday’s block of Shonda Rhimes-produced series continues to perform over one month into the season. All three of the dramas were steady with last week’s live-plus-same-day shows, with the exception of a rising How to Get Away With Murder. The 10 p.m. drama was up two-tenths of a point. Grey’s Anatomy took a 2.5 rating with adults 18-49, while Scandal and Murder each posted a 3.0 rating.
