American Idol looks like it’s leveling off. In its fourth Wednesday since returning to Fox last month, the show saw its first week-to-week improvement with an average 3.9 rating among adults 18-49. The fast national number is up a tenth of a point from last week. American Idol also scored 13.3 million viewers, giving Fox nightly wins in the demo and total viewers.
CBS celebrated the 200th episode of Criminal Minds with some solid growth. The procedural jumped six-tenths of a point in the key demo for a 2.8 rating among adults 18-49 — matching a season best. It also marked the show’s largest audience, 12.8 million, since May 2012. The lift helped drive CSI (2.0 adults) up as well. The 10 p.m. show was up by four-tenths of a point, giving CBS nightly averages of a 2.1 rating with adults 18-39 an 10.7 million viewers.
The Middle (2.2 adults) shed a tenth of a point from its most recent episode, while Suburgatory (1.7 adults) climbed two-tenths with an original lead-in. Modern Family (3.5 adults) improved by a tenth of a point from its last new outing, and Super Fun Night (1.6 adults) improved by three-tenths. Nashville (1.3 adults) tied a series low at 10 p.m., down two-tenths of a point. The night brought an average 1.9 adults rating and 6.7 million viewers to the network.
More Olympic anticipation on NBC brought special How to Raise an Olympian (1.1 adults). The softer lead-in led to a dip for Law & Order: SVU (1.8 adults, down two-tenths), though Chicago P.D. (1.7 adults) remained steady. NBC brought in a 1.5 rating with adults 18-49 and 5.6 million viewers for Wednesday.
Arrow (1.0 adults) shed a tenth of a point on The CW, and lead-out The Tomorrow People (0.5 adults) fell two-tenths. The CW took a 0.7 demo rating and 2.1 million viewers for the night.
