“Who Shot J.R.?” isn’t the ratings paydirt that it used to be, but it still works for Dallas.
The TNT drama hit a season high on Monday night after offing the iconic TV character last week, a plot twist thrust upon the reboot when actor Larry Hagman died in November at 81. The one-hour episode averaged 3.6 million viewers, besting any performance this season and the current average of 2.6 million viewers.

It’s a far cry from the returns of the stronger summer season, when Dallas opened to a whopping 6.9 million and closed to 4.3 million, but it did mark a 28 percent jump from the previous week’s episode.
Among coveted adults 18-49, Dallas rose two tenths of a point for a 0.9 rating in the demo, about 1.1 million viewers. Even more of TNT’s older-skewing audience took the bait, with a 26 percent upswing in adults 25-54 to 1.38 million.
