Empire clearly isn’t immune to the week-to-week drops many shows are suffering from this season with live-plus-same-day audiences.
Though the series still easily won Wednesday night, in both the key demo and total viewers, it slid another half of a point among adults 18-49 for an average 4.6 rating. The Fox drama also averaged 12.2 million viewers. Empire has seen its time-shifting take rise with each same-day fall since the lofty premiere, so it’s becoming apparent that the show currently isn’t nabbing the appointment-viewing status that it had during its freshman season.
Partner Rosewood was also off, losing four-tenths of a point in the key demo, for an average 1.4 rating.
The rest of the broadcast lineup was status-quo on Wednesday. ABC’s suite of comedies — The Middle (1.9 adults), The Goldbergs (2.0 adults), Modern Family (2.6 adults) and Black-ish (1.8 adults) — were all steady with last week. At 10 p.m., however, Nashville ticked up two-tenths to a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49.
Survivor (2.1 adults) was dead-even with its showing last week before steady episodes of Criminal Minds (1.7 adults) and Code Black (1.2 adults) on CBS.
And, on NBC, dramas The Mysteries of Laura (1.0 adults), Law & Order: SVU (1.5 adults) and Chicago P.D. (1.5 adults) were similarly steady.
Arrow averaged a 0.9 rating in the key demo on The CW, shedding two-tenths of a point from last week’s season opener. Supernatural (0.8 adults) was steady.
