Empire finally halted the downward trajectory it’s had after the record-breaking start to its second season nearly a month ago. Wednesday’s episode was the first to hold steady, actually improving from last week’s preliminary score, for an average 4.8 rating among adults 18-49 and 12.2 million viewers.
And the series managed that against continued competition from Major League Baseball — particularly the Mets-Cubs showdown on TBS, which nabbed a NLCS Game 4 record of a 5.9 overnight rating. At 8 p.m., Rosewood was also steady on Fox for an average 1.5 rating among adults 18-49. Fox easily took the night in the key demo.
ABC nabbed second-place status for the night with steady outings of all five Wednesday series: The Middle (1.9 adults), The Goldbergs (2.1 adults), Modern Family (2.7 adults), Black-ish (1.8 adults) and Nashville (1.1 adults).
Much like Fox and ABC, and seeing little difference in the baseball competition compared to a week ago, the rest of the Big Four were also steady. Survivor (2.1 adults), Criminal Minds (1.6 adults) and Code Black (1.2 adults) all held on CBS, as did The Mysteries of Laura (1.1 adults), Law & Order: SVU (1.5 adults) and Chicago P.D. (1.4 adults) on NBC.
The CW had new episodes of Arrow (0.8 adults) and Supernatural (0.6 adults).
