Barring any upward adjustments, Empire is looking at a same-day ratings low for Wednesday’s episode.
The Fox drama was down four-tenths of a point from its spring premiere, averaging a 2.4 rating among adults 18-49. That’s shy of the previous low logged in December. Empire also averaged 6.8 million viewers. On the bright side, Empire has been getting bigger time-shifted lifts. Last week’s premiere climbed to a 4.0 rating in the key demo with just three days of extra viewing.
Empire remains big enough to drive a nightly win for Fox, which also had a steady second outing for event series Shots Fired. The drama earned a 1.0 rating among adults 18-49 at 8 o’clock.
ABC saw improvement for comedies The Goldbergs (1.7 adults) and Modern Family (2.0 adults). And, in between the two, it launched a new sitcom. Imaginary Mary‘s Wednesday sampling was not too shabby, though not terribly promising either. The series pulled a 1.4 rating among adults 18-49 and 5.4 million viewers. Black-ish was steady with a 1.5 rating in the key demo, as was Designated Survivor with a 1.1 rating.
Survivor pulled another 1.7 rating among adults 18-49 on CBS. Criminal Minds (1.2 adults) was off a shade from last week, while spinoff Beyond Borders (0.9 adults) posted modest improvement at 10 p.m. On NBC, Blindspot (0.9 adults), Law & Order: SVU (1.1 adults) and Chicago P.D. (1.1 adults) were steady.
The CW had new outings of Arrow (0.5 adults) and The 100 (0.3 adults).
