There are a lot of caveats tacked onto Monday’s fast national ratings. With NFL preemptions happening in big markets for both CBS and NBC, and late-breaking news out of Ferguson, Mo., many early returns are subject to change. Multiple networks broke in throughout the night after a grand jury announced it would not be indicting cop Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown.
As it stands, it’s an unusually close race between NBC and ABC for No. 1 status. The Voice, averaging a tentative 2.7 rating among adults 18-49, was off four-tenths of a point from last week for a series low in performance episodes. And the second episode of State of Affairs (1.7 adults) took a 23 percent drop (half of a ratings point) from last week’s solid debut.
A steady Dancing With the Stars finale pulled a 2.4 rating with adults 18-49 on ABC, followed by a slightly lifted (two-tenths) episode of Castle (2.0 adults). The latter topped the 10 p.m. hour.
CBS’ Millers-free Monday saw a steady 2 Broke Girls (2.2 adults) and a significantly lifted Scorpion. With a Big Bang Theory repeat lead-in, the drama jumped 20 percent to a 2.4 rating in the key demo. NCIS: LA (1.7 adults) held steady.
Gotham closed out its fall run with a steady 2.3 rating among adults 18-49, while Sleepy Hollow (1.4 adults) took a two-tenths hit from last week’s live-plus-same-day showing.
The CW saw even outings of The Originals (0.6 adults) and Jane the Virgin (0.4 adults).
