NBC has yet another alternative hit on its hands. The network of The Voice and America’s Got Talent officially premiered Ellen’s Game of Games on Tuesday night, and each hour jumped from its already strong sampling from December.
Back-to-back episodes of Ellen DeGeneres’ primetime return averaged a respective 2.2 and 2.4 rating among adults 18-49. The two-hour block also averaged a robust 8.9 million viewers for NBC, marking the top in-season premiere for an alternative series since Little Big Shots in 2016. Paired with Chicago Med, which earned a 1.5 rating in the key demo at 10 p.m., the network netted an easy adults 18-49 win for the night — though CBS had top honors among total viewers.
Game of Games wasn’t the only new entry for the night. Fox kicked off midseason comedy LA to Vegas on a rather promising note. The sitcom held all of its Lethal Weapon demo lead-in, averaging a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49. That score also meant it tied its only sitcom competition in the time slot, ABC’s Blackish. LA to Vegas averaged 3.8 million viewers.
Tuesday night was packed with originals. Both CBS and ABC went all-in on new episodes. CBS led with steady episodes of NCIS (1.5 adults), Bull (1.2 adults) and NCIS: New Orleans (1.0 adults), while ABC saw The Middle (1.5 adults) and Fresh Off the Boat (1.2 adults) perk up before a flat Black-ish and a steady Kevin (Probably) Saves the World.
