NBC brass are likely wishing they could squeeze more than 18 episodes out of the freshman season of This Is Us.
The drama, this season’s runaway hit, brought ratings highs in the penultimate outing before next week’s finale. At 9 p.m., Tuesday’s This Is Us climbed to a 2.9 rating among adults 18-49 and scored a series high of 11 million in night-of viewers. The demo score makes it the night’s highest rated series and the audience brought it a rare win over formidable CBS time slot foe Bull.
It all added up to yet another nightly win for NBC, which kicked off the night with a one-hour episode of The Voice (2.6 adults) and finished with a new Chicago Justice (1.3 adults) — the show that seems to always be on despite premiering less than a week ago.
A distant No. 2 status went to CBS, which had even outings of its entire Tuesday block: NCIS (1.6 adults), Bull (1.3 adults) and NCIS: New Orleans (1.1 adults).
Over on ABC, comedies were essentially unchanged from their last showings. The Middle and American Housewife led with a shared 1.4 rating among adults 18-49, followed by Fresh Off the Boat (1.1 adults) and The Real O’Neals (0.9 adults). New entry People Icons earned a 0.5 rating.
After comedy repeats, Fox aired an original Bones (0.7 adults). And, on the CW, The Flash (0.9 adults) and Legends of Tomorrow (0.5 adults) each lost a little steam after getting a counter-programming boost last week against Donald Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress.
