Pop culture’s unsavory story du jour — 19 Kids and Counting star Josh Duggar‘s admitted past sexual abuse of (among other young women) his own sisters — drove viewers to the Fox News Channel on Wednesday night. Megyn Kelly‘s exclusive sit-down with fertile matriarch and patriarch Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar lured a 2015 ratings high for The Kelly File.
An average 3.1 million viewers, a good 20-some of which were probably Duggars themselves, watched the 9 p.m. telecast — making it the most watched in cable news that night. Of those viewers, 866,000 were in the news demographic of adults 25-54. Both of those numbers marked yearly highs for TV’s reigning No. 2 cable-news telecast. It was actually the third-highest demo haul since Kelly’s primetime debut in 2013 — up by 124 percent from the same day last week.
The good ratings news likely will continue for Kelly on Friday night, when she airs the second part of the interview.
