Megyn Kelly stepped out on Big Fox on Tuesday night with her inaugural Megyn Kelly Presents interview special — which notably featured a sit-down with presumptive GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, who has made a frequent target of the cable news personality since they sparred during a 2015 debate.
Facing stiff competition from NBC’s The Voice and the season finale of CBS’ NCIS, the special did give Kelly a larger audience than she typically sees on Fox News Channel. Updated Nielsen ratings give the program 4.8 million viewers and a 0.8 rating among adults 18-49. It was a chummy exchange between Kelly and Trump, given the duo’s history, so the lack of fireworks naturally kept it from the kind of ratings highs associated with some of Trump’s TV appearances.
Compared to Kelly’s FNC show, the hour more than doubled her April average of 2.3 million viewers. It also marked a significant time slot improvement for Fox, which had been airing New Girl and Grandfathered in the time slot since January. In the news demo of adults 25-54, Megyn Kelly Presents earned 1.5 million viewers.
The show led into the series premiere of dating series Coupled. That, keeping in line with all reality launches since ratings anomaly Little Big Shots, was pretty weak. Coupled only averaged a 0.5 rating among adults 18-49 and 1.9 million viewers.
NCIS topped the night with a massive 17.6 million viewers and a 2.5 rating in the key demo, easily outpacing The Voice and everything else on broadcast. CBS also had a lifted episode of NCIS: New Orleans (1.8 adults) and a new Person of Interest (1.1 adults).
The Voice averaged a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49 and 8.9 million viewers on NBC. Both of the subsequent Chicago series, Med and Fire, averaged a 1.6 rating in the key demo.
ABC had new episodes of Fresh Off the Boat (1.1 adults), The Real O’Neals (0.9 adults), and a twofer of Agents of SHIELD (1.0 adults).
