True Crime is still very much a thing.
ABC waded back into the fruitful waters of the ‘90s for its documentary special on the infamous Menendez brothers, who’ve spent the last 27 years in prison for the 1989 murders of their parents.. Truth and Lies averaged a solid 1.6 rating among adults 18-49 and 7 million viewers over the course of its two-hour debut. Though it did fall shy of CBS’ Mom, head to head at 9 p.m., the special ranked as the No. 1 program for the last two hours of primetime. ABC kicked off the night with a new episode of the Great American Baking Show (1.0 adults).
But the entire night belonged to CBS. The return of The Big Bang Theory was up to a 3.6 rating among adults 18-49 and 16.7 million viewers. That helped push The Great Indoors to series highs — a 1.9 rating in the key demo. Mom (1.7 adults), Life in Pieces (1.4 adults) and Pure Genius (0.8 adults) followed.
The Good Place was essentially steady in its return to NBC, though it did not match lead-in Superstore. The comedy averaged a 1.0 rating among adults 18-49 after Superstore’s 1.2 rating. Chicago Med (1.2 adults) and The Blacklist (1.0 adults) were both down in their returns.
Hell’s Kitchen earned a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 on Fox, up significantly from the previous week, while a second episode dipped slightly to a 1.1 rating.
