Chuck Lorre's Mike & Molly proved a reliable bench player after its fourth season was picked up for a truncated order for midseason. The Melissa McCarthy starrer will be back for its fifth season, though it's unclear if, again, it will be for a limited and midseason order.

The comedy, on the bench for the start of the past two seasons, opened with a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49. That live-plus-same-day showing is off 31 percent from its comparable November launch last season, though it did retain 90 percent of the previous half-hour’s showing in the demo.

Lead-in 2 Broke Girls (2.0 adults) rebounded four-tenths of a point from its last original, while Scorpion (2.1 adults) inched up two-tenths of a point before a steady NCIS: LA (1.6 adults).
Nightly leader NBC saw The Voice down three-tenths of a point to a 2.5 in the key demo, still enough to top the night. State of Affairs (1.6 adults) held steady.

Over on ABC, annual special Great Christmas Light Fight (1.9 adults) improved half a point from last year. Castle (1.7 adults) moved up two-tenths of a point — though both shows’ scores are tentative with NFL preemptions in Atlanta, Milwaukee and Green Bay.
The CW brought steady episodes of The Originals (0.6 adults) and Jane the Virgin (0.5 adults).
