Fox News had one of its biggest nights ever, excluding election nights, debates and political conventions, on Monday.
The cable news channel’s Hannity delivered 7.3 million viewers, and Tucker Carlson Tonight 6.77 million, as both featured extensive coverage of Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation and swearing in as a Supreme Court justice. Only ESPN’s Monday Night Football telecast (10.5 million viewers) and NBC’s The Voice (7.6 million) drew bigger audiences in primetime. It was the most watched Hannity episode of 2020, excluding shows that aired during the Republican National Convention.
The Ingraham Angle (4.92 million viewers) was also well above its usual numbers for Fox News. The network’s primetime average of 6.33 million viewers finished second to ESPN, edging NBC’s 6.3 million.
On the broadcast networks in primetime, The Voice was easily the most watched show and tied CBS’ Big Brother for the lead among adults 18-49 with a 1.0 rating. The NBC talent competition was down some from its premiere last week, which drew a 1.2 in the 18-49 demo and 8.2 million viewers. Weakest Link (0.6 in 18-49, 3.7 million viewers) also declined.
ABC’s Dancing With the Stars (0.8 in the demo, 5.48 million viewers) and Emergency Call (0.4, 2.6 million) were both fairly steady. CBS got soft numbers from its special Essential Heroes, which managed just 810,000 viewers. At Fox, L.A.’s Finest (0.4, 1.8 million) and Filthy Rich (0.3, 1.39 million) were down a bit from last week’s NFL-assisted numbers but on par with the episodes prior to that.
Monday Night Football led primetime in both viewers and adults 18-49 (3.2 rating). It was off about 3 percent in viewers from the same week a year ago (10.84 million).
