Summer comedies may be judged by a different measuring stick, but that shouldn’t take away from the solid start of NBC’s Mr. Robinson.
The comedy debuted to a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 and 4.6 million viewers, making it the most watched summer-comedy launch since 2007’s Creature Comforts America (anybody?) on CBS. The second episode dipped to a 1.0 rating in the key demo — but that still left it as broadcast’s highest-rated effort in the 9 p.m. hour.
Lead-in America’s Got Talent, a clip show, was down by four-tenths of a point from the previous week. It opened the night for NBC with a 1.4 rating in the key demo — a score shared by 10 p.m.’s steady Last Comic Standing.
CBS had the night’s highest-rated series, Big Brother, which climbed 17 percent from the previous week to a 2.1 rating with adults 18-49. Extant (0.8 adults) was even at 9 p.m.
Both MasterChef (1.4 adults) and Home Free (0.8 adults) held steady on Fox, as did Celebrity Wife Swap (0.8 adults) on ABC.
The CW saw a steady return for America’s Next Top Model (0.4 adults), which matched last summer’s launch. A Wicked Offer premiered to a 0.3 rating with adults 18-49.
