With CBS comedies in repeats and ABC shelving Shonda Rhimes‘ TGIT for soft mini When We Rise, Thursday brought a rare win for NBC.
The network, no doubt aided by a special one-hour outing of The Voice, led the night in both the key demo and total viewers — starting with a 2.3 rating among adults 18-49 for The Voice during the 8 o’clock hour. It ranked as the No. 1 show across TV for the night.
Chicago Med was much-improved at 9 p.m., pulling a 1.7 rating among adults 18-49. Thank both the robust lead-in and all of the attention from Wednesday’s three-way Chicago crossover. All of the extra attention on the night did assist The Blacklist: Redemption. The spinoff improved from its poor premiere last week, climbing two-tenths of a point in the key demo for a 1.0 rating among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m.
Fox had steady outings of culinary competitions MasterChef Junior (1.1 adults) and My Kitchen Rules (0.8 adults). Over on The CW, Supernatural (0.6 adults) and Riverdale (0.4 adults) helped the No. 5 broadcaster score a surprise win over ABC.
ABC said goodbye to six-hour event series When We Rise, which came to a quiet conclusion after a documentary special about the real-life people behind the gay-rights drama. When We Rise‘s final two hours pulled respective 0.4 and 0.5 ratings in the key demo.
And CBS was not all repeats on Thursday. The network had one lone original after comedy encores with a new Training Day. It marked the first new episode since this past week’s untimely passing of star Bill Paxton. And, with a 0.8 rating in the key demo, the show did jump 33 percent from the previous week.
