NBC gave its foursome of older gentlemen a prime premiere post on Tuesday night — and it worked out pretty well.
Senior travelogue Better Late Than Never, which follows William Shatner, Henry Winkler, George Foreman and Terry Bradshaw traversing Asia, bowed after the post-Olympics return of America’s Got Talent. And, in its first outing, the reality show managed to pull a handsome 1.6 rating among adults 18-49 and 7.4 million viewers. As summer Big Four launches go, reality or scripted, that’s a solid start. It tops every new entry this summer, save ABC’s The $100,000 Pyramid.
Better Late Than Never also did a good job of retaining its lead-in. AGT brought a 2.4 rating among adults 18-49 and 11.1 million viewers, steady with its last live outing and easily topping the rest of broadcast’s relatively few original outings on the night.
Elsewhere, ABC had a one-hour Bachelor in Paradise (1.4 adults) and talker After Paradise (0.7 adults). Neither saw much movement after airing against the Olympics for the last two weeks.
And, on CBS, the recently renewed Zoo took a 0.8 rating in the key demo, while The CW brought a 0.2 rating (and a mere 660,000 viewers) with a new episode of MadTV.
