The CW had an interesting strategy in premiering one of its only two true freshman of the fall against wall-to-wall coverage of Tuesday’s vice presidential debate.
No Tomorrow opened as broadcast’s only counterprogramming to speak of, and its initial same-day scores are predictably modest. At 9 p.m., No Tomorrow averaged just a 0.5 rating among adults 18-49 and 1.6 million viewers. That’s less than half of the score of lead-in The Flash, which returned to a 1.2 rating in the key demo and 3.1 million viewers. While low, even by CW premiere standards, No Tomorrow did open better than last year’s CW dramedy entry: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. (The critical favorite did not even crack 1 million viewers during its season premiere.)
The night’s only real competition came during the 8 o’clock hour, before the so-so debate performance. A Voice clip show led in the demo, earning a 2.0 rating among adults 18-49, and NCIS topped originals with a 1.8 demo score and 13.9 million viewers. Dancing With the Stars held steady with a 1.4 demo rating on ABC, while Brooklyn Nine-Nine and New Girl each fetched a 1.0 rating with adults 18-49 on Fox.
