The people have spoken. And while the full significantly more viewers will watch the series finale of FX’s The People v. O.J.: American Crime Story in the coming days, its Tuesday haul did mark a 17 percent jump from the previous episode.
“The Verdict,” the last in the 10-episode run of the cable network’s lauded miniseries, averaged just under 3.3 million viewers in its first showing. That number will at least double in the coming week, when more viewers tune into the highly time-shifted series — the strongest freshman performer in FX history.
The latest live-plus-seven day ratings have The People v. O.J. Simpson averaging 7.7 million viewers. Among those, 4.1 million have been in the adults 18-49 demographic.
Live-plus-same day viewership for the mini peaked with the premiere episode. That installment brought in 5.1 million viewers on the night of its debut. Subsequent episodes hovered around the 3-million mark, with the penultimate taking 2.8 million viewers.
Year-to-date, the limited series easily ranks as the No. 2 show on cable behind perennial victor and unflappable ratings juggernaut The Walking Dead.
FX also will be finding plenty of viewers in encores. After already replaying much of the 10-episode run, The People v. O.J. will air in a marathon this Saturday.
