NBC teed up Revolution for smaller ratings in its move to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays — and though it did see a significant drop from its post-Voice launch in 2012, the drama didn’t open that far off from its performance in the spring.
Fast National ratings give Revolution a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49 and 6.8 million viewers. A year ago, Revolution brought in a 4.1 adults rating before falling significantly throughout the season and finishing with a 2.0 rating in the demo. The show averaged a 1.9 rating in the demo during May sweeps. To Revolution‘s credit, it pulled in its highest viewer total since March, averaging 6.8 million and outperforming the finale by 10 percent.

And while Revolution may have been down, the lead-in did not hurt Law & Order: SVU (2.9 adults). The veteran procedural jumped 29 percent from last year’s opener, posting its highest rating since May 2011. NBC tied CBS for third place in the demo over the course of the night, averaging a 2.4 adults rating. The net also brought in 8.6 million viewers.
Over on ABC, the full-hour premiere of Modern Family averaged a 4.1 rating with adults 18-49. The Emmy darling was down 25 percent from last year’s 5.5 adults rating. Also down 25 percent was Nashville, kicking off its second season with a 2.1 rating in the demo. Like Revolution, Nashville saw steady dips last season after its robust launch (2.8 adults).
ABC started the night with The Middle (2.4 adults), off half of a point from its premiere last year. It led in to new sitcom Back in the Game, which, averaging a 2.2 adults rating, marks ABC’s lowest fall comedy launch since 2009. ABC topped the night in the demo, averaging a 2.8 rating with adults 18-49. The network placed second among total viewers with 8.8 million.

Boosted competition did not hurt The X Factor. Fox’s singing competition averaged a 2.5 rating with adults 18-49, up three-tenths from last week’s Wednesday outing. The two-hour episode also brought in 7.6 million viewers.
Survivor (2.3 adults) kicked off CBS’ night down three-tenths of a point from last week’s premiere. Both CBS dramas Criminal Minds (2.8 adults) and CSI (2.1 adults) were up from their finale performances but down from last fall’s premieres by a respective three- and four-tenths of a point. CBS topped the night with total viewers (9.9 million) and tied NBC’s 2.4 rating with adults 18-49.
The CW had an encore of Arrow and a new Capture (0.2 adults), averaging out to a 0.3 rating with adults 18-49 and 906,000 viewers for the night.
Univision averaged a 1.4 adults rating and 3.5 million viewers, while Telemundo took a and 0.4 in the demo and 1.1 million viewers.
