TV Ratings: Rio Now Averaging 27.8 Million Viewers, As Monday Dips

The Olympics continue for NBC. 

 

Monday’s primetime coverage dominated the rest of the TV landscape, although it dipped from the night before. 

 

With more track and field and beach volleyball and the conclusion of U.S. gymnastics, NBC posted an overnight showing of a 16.4 rating among households. Fast National returns give NBC-only coverage a tentative 23.9 million viewers and a 6.9 rating among adults 18-49. 

 

Six days remain for the Rio Olympics, and the games currently boast an average 27.8 million viewers and 15.4 rating among households. Those stats remain off from the London Olympics by more than 5 million. At this point in the last Summer Games, NBC was averaging 33.1 million viewers and a 18.5 household rating. 

 

Rio coverage is also down from that of Beijing in 2008, though by not as much. And, on the bright side, Rio is still pacing ahead of the 2004 Olympics in Athens. 

 

Original competition remains relatively immune to the Olympic draw. ABC’s Bachelor in Paradise netted a steady 1.4 rating among adults 18-49. Mistresses was also even — though with a same-day low 0.5 rating in the key demo.
