Fox’s American Idol was down Thursday — as was nearly everything. The series dropped 10 percent according to fast national ratings, pulling a 3.8 among adults 18-49. Added to the shrinking Touch, down 15 percent to a 2.3 in the demo, Fox edged out CBS among adults for the night. The network averaged a 3.0 in the demo and pulled a second-place showing of 10.6 million viewers.
CBS had Thursday’s only series immune from shrinkage, and it came from an unlikely source: Rules of Engagement held on to its 2.7 rating among adults 18-49 after The Big Bang Theory dropped 11 percent to a 4.2 in the demo. Person of Interest was down to a 2.9, still beating ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, and The Mentalist dipped 11 percent to a 2.4 among adults. The network averaged a 2.9 with adults 18-49 and 12.3 million viewers.
Missing continued to fall on ABC, netting just a 1.4 among adults 18-49 before the return of Grey’s Anatomy. The medical drama was down 7 percent from its most recent original for a season low of a 2.8 in the demo. Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes launched her latest ABC series at 10 p.m. Scandal had a sturdy 2.1 among adults 18-49, though it’s worth noting that Missing enjoyed that same premiere number in the same slot just a month ago.
NBC hit series lows across the board, with the exception of The Office, which is still stuck in repeats. Community dropped to a 1.3 among adults 18-49, and 30 Rock fell to a 1.2. Up All Night was down to a 1.1, while Awake was barely conscious at 10 p.m. with a 0.9 in the demo. NBC averaged a 1.1 rating among 18-49-ers and 2.7 million viewers.
The CW aired repeats of The Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle, averaging a 0.4 with adults 18-49.
