The 2011 American Music Awards retained its audience from the previous year, matching the 2010 low of a 4.3 rating in adults 18-49.
ABC’s three-hour broadcast of the music kudos was actually up from the previous year in total viewers, averaging 12 million over the course of the night. It also posted its highest rating in teenagers (12-17) since 2004, up 24 percent from 2011.

Its lead-in, Countdown to the American Music Awards, made its debut to particularly low ratings for the 7:00 p.m. timeslot. Down 25 percent from the previous week’s America’s Funniest Home Videos, it brought in a 1.3 rating in adults 18.49. For the night, ABC averaged 10.14 million viewers and a 3.5 in the demo.

Sunday Night Football was down for NBC. The pre-Thanksgiving match-up was down to a 6.6 in the adults 18-49, giving it a 11 percent loss from last week. The network still topped the rest in the demo — a 5.5 rating for the night — and in viewers, averaging 14.8 million.

CBS pulled a 2.8 in adults 18-49 for the night, with the ratings slightly skewed by football overage. The Amazing Race (2.9) and The Good Wife (2.1) were both up, with CSI: Miami (1.8) down three tenths in adults 18-49.
On Fox, a lack of a football lead-in hurt the animation block, with freshman offering Allen Gregory taking the hardest hit. The series hit a new low in 18-49, earning a 1.9 and failing to crack the 4 million mark in viewers.
