Both panel series have previously tied among targeted audiences of women 25-54 and 18-49, which they did again for the week ending Jan. 11, but this marks the first time The Talk has had the audience advantage. For the week, it averaged 2.95 million viewers — edging out The View‘s 2.88 million.
It’s been something of a foregone conclusion that The Talk would catch up with The View. ABC’s revamped talker, which set the precedent for female-centric panels when it launched in 2007, has been on a downward slide amid cast changes these past few years. And The Talk has been on a very steady rise.
The addition of Rosie O’Donnell, Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace has done nothing to stem The View‘s losses. Also of note: Both Perez and moderator Whoopi Goldberg sat out last week — Perez for her stint on Broadway, and Goldberg for a back injury. The show was also preempted on the east coast, of Friday, for breaking news out of Paris.
Both shows were up 8 percent from the week prior, with The Talk at nearly a year high.
